One School, One Book?
What is One School, One Book?
It's when the whole community shares the same literary experience: the students, families, volunteers, and staff - our WHOLE community - will be reading the same book over a three-week period, from February 27th to March 19th.
At our assembly today, we revealed this year’s One School, One Book book, which is WIshtree by Katherine Applegate. We love how it feels to have our entire school community reading the same book, at the same time, at the same pace. Each child was given their copy of the book today, along with a bookmark that has the reading schedule for the next three weeks. As this is meant to be a community-wide reading event, we invite you to read along with your child and share in this joyful experience with all of us.
If you would like to see the trailer that we shared as the introduction to the book, it is available here. Click to see the TRAILER FOR THE BOOK.
How One School, One Book Works
Following the Reading Schedule--You’ll find the reading schedule on the bookmark for the next three weeks.
Listen to the Audiobook–Open has made their audiobook of Wishtree! It’s fun to listen to it as a read aloud, follow along in the book, and try to guess who is reading.
If you would like to listen with your child, below is a link to the weekly slides that have the recordings linked on them. If you click on the chapter numbers, it will open a link to Dropbox where you can listen to those chapters. You don’t need a Dropbox account to access the recordings.
Click here for Open School’s AUDIOBOOK of Wishtree or see attached. Just simply click on the different chapters.
Share a Photo - Each week at Tuesday’s assembly, we will be sharing pictures of people in our community reading the book. If you would like your child to be included, please send a picture of your child (or your family) reading the book to Ms. Lew.
Get into the Story - While we do deeper dives into the story at school, keep the conversation going at home by talking about favorite parts of the story or compare characters while you're driving in the car or chatting during dinner. We'll have some fun whole-school activities, too! If you would like some ideas about activities you can do at home related to this book, click below.
Family Fun Pack is filled with activities and ideas that you can do at home!.
Open’s ART CONTEST - We also introduced an art contest to the students, inviting everyone to create a drawing that is connected to the book and sharing them with us. A paper for the drawing went home today and, to participate in the contest, the drawings need to be turned in by Thursday, March 14th to the red bucket in front of Orange Cluster.
